Simple ways to protect your credit rating

Donít be the next victim to identity theft; protect yourself from fraudsters by making yourself less vulnerable. By defending your personal and financial details against fraud you can ensure that no blips will show up on your credit report.

1. Protect yourself online

How many times a day do you enter personal details or passwords on the internet? Every time you do this you could be giving away personal details to fraudsters if you donít take precautions. Ensure you install up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your computer so you do limit the chances of threat.

2. Throw away with care

As I am sure you are aware, you should never dispose of personal details in your trash. Fraudsters have been known to go through rubbish so they are able to copy and abuse your identity. By shredding your paperwork you will make sure it is well and truly destroyed before you throw it out.

3. Keep confidential data safe

Be careful who you supply your personal details to, ensure you are fully aware of who they are and what they will be using your information for. Never leave credit or debit card in a place it could be easily copied and when entering your pin, ensure you cover your fingers properly.

4. Check, check, check

Always check your bank statements and credit report regularly so that you know when things go awry. Check your statements every month and investigate any transactions you donít recognise straightaway.

5. Check your credit report online straight away

Check your credit report online regularly to keep on top of it and make sure your identity hasnít been tampered with. Investigate identity theft protection services which are available if you are concerned.
